With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare nearing its release date, we were gifted with a small taste of what is to come on October 25th. This past weekend, there was an open alpha for all PS4 players to try out the new mode: 2v2 Gunfight. Enclosed in tight and fast maps, a total of 40 speeding seconds of the clock, you and your squad mate must eliminate the opposing team before time runs out. However, if the match ends in a stalemate, you must capture the flag to win the match.
Gunfight offers a different approach to the ever expanding COD franchise. As both teams are always equipped with the same weapons and there are no revives or respawns; once you're out, you're out. The matches are intense, rapidly paced and require flawless communication to take home the win. With gun play that is extremely smooth and fun, and action that is adrenaline filled and add in some beautifully rendered graphics, COD: Modern Warfare is shaping up to be an exciting revamp of the one of the most beloved titles in the COD franchise.
Although some may say that COD: Modern Warfare is just a re-skin of the original 2007 version, this take on Modern Warfare is an entirely different animal. While multiplayer will be a large part of the game itself, the campaign is something to keep an eye out for. While we don't know if all of the characters from the old campaign are returning (miss you Soap) we will have two interesting new characters: Farah and Hadir. Luckily, the beloved Cpt. Price will be returning and is looking much younger, but just as deadly as ever. With a brand new and immensely powerful engine running the game, a slew of tweaks to gun customization, a new 'Realism Mode', Gunfight and even the addition of tanks in PvP, Modern Warfare may be the shooter we have always needed.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will hit systems on October 25th, with a closed beta on September 12th, followed by and open beta for all PS4 player son September 14 through the 16th.
